3 Healthy New Year’s Resolutions You Can Make and Keep

Every year, millions of people around the world make New Year’s resolutions. Over 80% of people who make those resolutions fail, but with the best intentions. More people are becoming aware that being healthy and living the best life possible is what’s most important. Here are four healthy resolutions you can make and keep for a new you in 2018:

  1. Eat healthier. Take baby steps!  If you try to change your routine over night, it won’t work. Taking baby steps can slowly ease you into changing your eating habits with one food at a time. There are many options to eating healthier. You can switch one of your meals for a fruit smoothie. You can start the process of reading labels and lowering your sugar intake. You can also substitute dairy for more healthier options such as almond or cashew milk. Instead of choosing snacks such as chips or cookies, opt for an apple or your favorite fruit. Keeping a food journal is helpful too! Write down everything that you eat daily and hold yourself accountable. You will be amazed at the foods listed on your journal! Eating healthier have a lot of benefits and it will keep you energized and focused on your day.
  1. Drink more water. We have all heard that we should drink at least eight cups of water a day. The truth is that most of us don’t and we sometimes replace water  with alcohol or juice. While it satisfies our cravings, it’s not going to have the same benefits as drinking water. Besides being nourishing for your body, water is the best thing you can drink for your skin! It  revitalizes, refreshes, and rejuvenates your skin naturally.  For those who don’t like the taste of water, try infusing it with fruits or herbs such as cucumbers, cantaloupes, mint leaves, or honeydew melons. Incorporating these fruits will help detoxify your skin giving you natural nutrients and antioxidants. Here’s a quick and easy recipe that you can try. You can substitute the fruits and herbs for your favorites.


1 1-gallon pitcher

  4 cups of water

           3 cups of cantaloupe

            2 organic mint leaves

Mix cantaloupe with water. Refrigerate for 2 ½ hours until cantaloupe infuses.  Stir well and add ice. Use mint leaves as a garnish.

  1. Sleep more. There are just not enough hours in the day. At least this is what we think, but it’s not true. We all have busy lifestyles and schedules and it’s important to know that we still need to take care of ourselves.  Having a healthy sleeping pattern will keep you mentally focused and your body in relaxation mode. Studies have shown that the average person gets six hours of sleep or less and it shows that the average adult needs at least a full eight hours of sleep. If you have problems sleeping, try using natural remedies such as drinking warm honey or putting away your phones to prevent distractions. Sleeping is nature’s way of saying you and your body needs rest and relaxation. Getting proper sleep will keep you looking refreshed, younger, and healthier.
